Birch Forest, Early Spring
Acrylic on canvas

The Story
Imagine walking through this forest, following an obscure, overgrown trail from the parking lot to a hidden cottage. There is no road, but a boat will carry us back to the government dock, where we can load our “stuff” and begin the weekend of opening the cottage for the summer days to come.
Freshness, new beginnings, smells of the leafy forest floor, memories of past summers, anticipation of this new season.
I was able to slip away from others for some moments with my birch panel and oil paint for a plein air sketch, which translated later into this larger acrylic painting.
